SUPPORT for
EUROPEAN COOPERATION PROJECTS 2018
and for
COOPERATION PROJECTS RELATED TO THE EUROPEAN YEAR OF CULTURAL HERITAGE 2018

Creative Europe is the European Commission’s framework programme for support to the culture and audiovisual sectors. Following on from the previous Culture Programme and MEDIA programme, Creative Europe, with a budget of €1.46 billion (9% higher than its predecessors), supports Europe’s cultural and creative sectors.

Launched in January 2014, Creative Europe brings together a Culture sub-programme, which provides funding for the cultural and creative sectors, and a MEDIA sub-programme, which invests in film, television, new media and games.

The European Commission is responsible for the implementation of the programme. The Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) manages the Culture and MEDIA Sub-programmes on behalf and under control of the European Commission.

The Programme runs 7 years (2014-2020)

Offers funding for:

  • Development of European films, TV programmes and games
  • Distribution and promotion of European films, festivals, cinema networks
  • Training for cultural and creative professionals/artists
  • Literary translations
  • Cross-border cooperation

What else does Creative Europe support? 
Through Creative Europe, the European Union supports a variety of initiatives, and prizes, which aims to highlight excellence and raise awareness of Europe’s creativity and heritage:
– European Capitals of Culture
– European Heritage Days
– European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa  Nostra Awards
– European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture / Mies van der Rohe Award 
– European Heritage Label
– European Border Breakers Awards
– European Union Prize for Literature

In the Culture sub-programme,  Kosovo is eligible for

  • Support to Cooperation projects
  • Support to Literary translation projects

There is currently an annual Call for proposals launched for

  • COOPERATION PROJECTS (category 1 and 2)

The deadline: 18 January 2018  

There is an additional, one-off Call for proposals for 2018 on :

  • COOPERATION PROJECTS RELATED TO THE EUROPEAN YEAR OF CULTURAL HERITAGE 2018 (category 3)

COOPERATION P¨ROJECTS

WHAT IS IT FOR?

To support the capacity of the European cultural and creative sectors to operate transnationally and internationally. To promote the circulation of cultural and creative works and the mobility of cultural and creative players, in particular of artists, transnationally.  It also aims to improve access to European cultural and creative works and extend their reach to new and larger audiences.

In addition, it contributes to innovation and creativity in the field of culture.

  • COOPERATION PROJECTS

Two categories are available under this annual funding strand:

Category 1: Small Cooperation Projects (Coop1)
Projects involving a project leader and at least two others partners, a minimum of 3 partner organisations from 3 different eligible countries.
Partners can apply for a grant of up to €200,000 (maximum of 60% of the total project budget). 

Category 2: Large Cooperation Projects (Coop2)
Projects involving a project leader and at least 5 other partners, a minimum of 6 partners from 6 different eligible countries;
Partners can apply for a grant of up to €2 million (maximum of 50% of the total project budget).

  • Objectives and Priorities

The main objectives are:

  1. To strengthen the capacity of the European cultural and creative sectors to operate transnationally and internationally and to promote the transnational circulation of cultural and creative works.
  2. To contribute to audience development by engaging in new and innovative ways with audiences and improve access to cultural and creative works in the Union with a particular focus on children, young people, people with disabilities and underrepresented groups.
  3. To contribute to innovation and creativity in the field of culture, for instance through testing of new business models and promoting innovative spillovers on other sectors.

The priorities of the support for European cooperation projects are:

  • Promote the transnational mobility of artists and professionals with a view to promote cultural exchanges, intercultural dialogues and the understanding of cultural diversity and social inclusion.
  • Audience development means bringing people and culture closer together. It means to improve access to European cultural and creative works and tangible and intangible cultural heritage and extend access to cultural works to under- represented groups including refugees.
  • Foster capacity building through innovative approaches to creation, develop and test new and innovative models of revenue, management and marketing for the cultural sectors, in particular as regards the digital shift, and developing new skills for cultural professionals.
  • Enhance intercultural dialogue, promote shared EU values and mutual understanding and respect for other cultures, thereby contributing to the social integration of migrants and refugees.

 

  • Who is this funding for?

 

  • Creative, cultural and heritage organisations working across any art form, such as visual arts, dance, theatre, literature, performance, music, heritage, architecture, design, circus, festivals, craft and fashion. This includes higher education institutions, local authorities, social enterprises, charities and companies operating in the cultural and creative sectors.
  • The applicants (the project leader and the partners) must be active in the cultural and creative sectors and be legally established in one of the countries participating in the Culture sub-programme of Creative Europe.

Both the project leader and partners must be in a position to demonstrate their existence as a legal entity at the deadline for submission.

  • Only the lead organisation needs to have been legally established for two years prior to the deadline.
  • Individuals may not apply for a grant.

 

  • COOPERATION PROJECTS RELATED TO THE EUROPEAN YEAR OF CULTURAL HERITAGE 2018

The deadline for submission: 22 November 2017 at 11am GMT

  • Objectives and priorities

The main objective of the support for European cooperation projects related to the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 is to reflect the purpose of the 2018 European Year of Cultural Heritage (EYCH 2018), which is to encourage the sharing and appreciation of Europe’s cultural heritage as a shared resource, to raise awareness of common history and values, and to reinforce a sense of belonging to a common European space

Within this context, the two objectives of the support for European cooperation projects related to EYCH 2018 are:
(1) To reinforce a sense of belonging to a common European space;
(2) To promote cultural heritage as a source of inspiration for artistic contemporary creation and innovation and strengthen the interaction between the cultural heritage sector and other cultural and creative sectors.

  • DURATION

The maximum duration of a project is

  • For category 1: 48 months
  • For category 2: 48 months
  • For category 3: 24 months

  • Financial contribution from the EU

The financial contribution cannot exceed

  • for category 1: 60% of the eligible costs
  • for category 2: 50% of the eligible costs
  • for category 3: 60% of the eligible costs.

How can you meet partners to collaborate with?

  • Attend networking events (IETM, Culture Action Europe, etc.), festivals and conferences with an international or European theme
  • Explore databases of funded projects belonging Creative Europe Desks: Austria, Italy, Poland, Serbia, Slovenia, France, Belgium, ..
  • Join the Creative Europe group on LinkedIn where organisations share ideas, projects and make requests for partners
